Prashansa candle in papier-mâché box.
This delicate pot with a varnished rim comes in hand painted pots from the skilled artisans of Kashmir. It has a subtle, relaxing, lavender scent with a hint of vanilla in blended beeswax.
All Dalit candles are handmade by the Dalit people of India and the purchase of these candles supports charity work with street children of this people group. You are not just purchasing a candle, you are supporting some of the poorest people in the world.
The clay is made from the best potting clay, sourced from Calcutta and transported in sacks to Mumbai, where a community of 300 potters have made their home in Dharavi for over 100 years. It is puddled by foot in pits until the right consistency.
They are then thrown by hand to form the clay cups. Before being fired in a brick furnace using recycled fabric as the heat source.
The fired pots are then taken to their production unit where the blended beeswax is lovingly poured by Dalit ladies, three times. This allows any air bubbles or cracks to be removed or corrected.
The candle pots are then wrapped and packaged in biodegradable cardboard packaging and coconut string and boxed ready to send to the UK.
For an even burn, keep the lit candle away from draughty areas. When not in use and once the candle has cooled, keep the candle in its papier-mâché box to keep it away from dust.
Approx Burn Time: 30 hours
